Sweet Pastel Natural Ammonite Fossil (M8416) $12.00Ammonite is a fossil of an extinct sea predator that lived over 65 million years ago. They belonged to a group known as cephalopods which are known today as squids, octopus, cuttlefish and nautilus. The ammonite shell is made of the mineral aragonite, a form of calcium carbonate and is divided into a series of air chambers. The series of air chambers allowed for ammonite to float. These ammonites are a special find from Tucson because they have not been polished. They are completely natural, yet they are still quite shiny, a very rare find. This beauty is more bronze in color with a brilliant green stripe and glowing red sutures.
The fossil measures 1.5" x 1.3" x 0.5" and weighs 1.1 oz. |
