Chatoyant Silvery Cat's Eye Quartz Freeform (M10829)SOLD!Not to be confused with man-made fibre optic stones, this is an uncommon naturally occurring polished freeform of chatoyant cat's eye quartz. It is distantly related to tiger's eye. The cat's-eye effect is due to the presence of asbestiform in parallel orientation within the quartz. These parallel oriented features reflect light in the form of a bright band which moves across the surface of the material as it is turned. Because this stone is in a freeform, the silver fire is broad and diffuse. This stone is from Brazil, and is the only one I found this past spring in Tucson.
The freeform measures 1.7" x 1.5" x 0.9" and weighs 1.6oz. Cat's-eye quartz is said to bring good judgment and provide deeper understanding. It is also said to enhance intuition and to increase one's psychic abilities and powers of concentration. Cat's-eye quartz has been used to treat vision disorders and is considered to be a powerful stimulus for one's self-healing abilities. |
