Chocolate window quartz is a relatively new and very rare find from Guangdong, China, first discovered about two years ago. Its name is derived from the golden brown coating on many of the crystals. This chocolate colored quartz is in many cases growing as a cap or overlay on the crystals, however some crystals are completely chocolate colored. It is believed the color derives from the hematite matrix that the cluster sits on. In addition red patches of hematite appear as if they painted on some areas of the crystals. The crystals have amazing clarity with etchings giving them a matte appearance.
